Yes, you heard right. The more this Star Ocean fangame to be was developed, the more and more original it became, eventually turning into a Star Ocean tribute instead of a direct Star Ocean fangame. With the original plotline and systems, we decided to change up the Star Ocean elements and make this game a commercial quality sci-fi/fantasy RPG.

While some names and setting have changed, don't let that put you off to try it out once it is available. Those who love Star Ocean will still enjoy the space-feel and completely action-filled battles with mesmerising 2.5D graphicks.

Character Introduction

In this journal, I'll introduce you to some of the majour recruitable characters in Fallen Angels. I'll start with the main choosable characters and expand into the others you may apply to the team.

 At the beginning of the game you are faced with the choice of playing as Kayci or Indalecio.

Description: Ambitious and strong-willed, Kayci is part of an elite force that settles disputes in various regions of space. She is acknowledged for her bravery, but is also seen as reckless, as she is not afraid to rush in when under dire pressure. Her best friend, Ignitious Adam, acts as her mentor and partner. A surprise attack to their mother ship leaves Ignitious' hands tied, and Kayci must pilot her fighter-ship to go take out the root of the problem. While fighting back the unknown enemy, a large ship begins to attack a nearby tourist board, leaving a determined Kayci to make a bold move that ends up landing her in a space/time warp back to planet Nede from the far past. It is here that she meets Indalecio, the quiet scholar...and their journey begins.

Description: Indalecio loves nothing more than a textbook on a calm, windy day. Reserved and studious, he is often found staying after class at the college he attends in a large town on Nede. He has a natural affinity for heraldic arts and plans to study further into magick and their effects on various matters. Indalecio often questions his existence, striving to find a true meaning for each living being. On an otherwise normal day, as he is silently reflecting to himself with a book cracked open, a flash of light near his favourite hang out spot leaves him investigating out of curiosity. It is in the heard of this beautiful scenery that serves as his getaway spot that he finds a demolished ship with Kayci inside. The two meet...and their journey together starts from there.

Description: Cyril is known to be both cold and cynical. He believes that friendship does not exist and would rather team up with others for his own personal gain, which usually is greedy in nature, especially when it comes to power. He likes bargaining with others to strike 'deals' and make people his underlings. Inside he is lost and confused, having no past (he was abandoned at a young age, giving the name Cyril to himself, as he never knows his real birth name) and never receiving love as a child. He views the world as something bitter, and wants to make it his own one day. He can appear as quite vain (and constantly plots to do anything necessary to be number one in power and leadership), but in reality it is a facade to cover up how empty he feels inside.

Description: Polite, respectful, and full of genius ideas, Ruprecht is often smiling and looking cheerful with squinted eyes. He appears awkward as a youth because he is taller than his peers. He actually has very good ideas and is always polite and uses formalities, but sometimes he hesitates to speak his mind. He is one to believe that every soul has a greater purpose in life...Ruprecht comes from a difficult lifestyle but manages to cope well and look lively. He has a very deep respect for older persons.

Description: Known as a daredevil and a barbarian. He can be viewed as very immature. He loves to pick fights and always wants to test his strength at every opportunity. Death isn't something sacred to him. Bloodshed is something he can honestly laugh at. He can throw a temper-tantrum if he loses at anything. His prime trait to boast about is his toned body and he believes physical power is the best thing to have. Sometimes he can obsess over women...a little too much, but despite him showing off, he doesn't receive much attention from them.

Description: Tough, intelligent, and popular Hanz is a normally well-guided female famous for her mastery of summons. She is praised as both a legend and hero but dislikes the attention. Usually friendly, she sometimes sports a cruel and sadistic side, especially if angered (slow to anger, but eventually explodes). She has a sarcastic and dry tongue...if she sees an opening for a playful insult, she will take it. She is very persistent and goal-oriented, and prefers working over relaxing. Her magick arts she claims is a gift and says that true intelligence and greatness lies in the way one applies oneself.

Description: Silent and mysterious is a perfect way to describe this shady character. A dark energy seems to surround him and he is not much for conversation, trying always to say as very little as possible. He shuns away from crowds and sticks to the shadows most of the time. Despite being introverted and strange, he successfully runs a decent herb shop, and runs it well - mostly thanks to his assistant, Jess, who supports him in every manner possible. From appearance and the way he carries himself, he looks frail...but his long hair is skillfully used as a weapon, along with the ability to use his medicinal herbs and concoctions to his advantage. He also is unfortunately well known for going ages without bathing.

Weapon: Staves - Healing Arts/Status Inducing Magicks
Description: Timid and shy, Sam will speak, but in an unsure and high-pitched tone of voice. She is reflective and calm most of the time, but has a very dramatic emotional side that although seems fake, is very real and not an act. She loves helping others and her majour goal in life is to find true everlasting love. She has a boyfriend, Vesper, and the two are close, but Sam still questions the bond holding them together. Being passive, she wants to be stronger...but doesn't have the strong mind to do so, so her forte is in aiding comrades in battle rather than fighting, which she doesn't like the idea of anyway. Sam also loves to sing, and does so very well.

 Many of you do not know that what is known now as Star Ocean: Fallen Angels really started out as a project to create a Star Ocean MMORPG dubbed SpherEternity. While SpherEternity isn't in production right now, it is planned to go into high production as soon as Fallen Angels has a definite release date. We expect both SpherEternity and Fallen Angels to have a release sometime in the next three to four years or so (remember, it does take quite awhile to complete a game), Fallen Angels releasing a bit sooner than SpherEternity. The resources used in Fallen Angels may or may not be used in SpherEternity, heavily depending on the graphick style chosen to go into the game itself. Many hardcore fans still want the beautifully detailed 2.5D to carry over into the Online realm of Star Ocean, while others push for a more full 3D approach. We cannot say for certain which route we will choose, though either or is possible.

 SpherEternity will allow players to choose from six races to begin with: Earthling, Expellian, Rezerbian, Nedian, Fellpool, and Klausian. Players will get to further their character creation by choosing and fully customizing a character's appearance, actions, and personalities. It will not use a class system, but rather a 'choose your own path' skill leveling, in which characters buy weapons of choice to train themselves in the ways they wish to. A 'moving storyline system' in which administrators playing as key characters plus user-induced content helps give the universe the feeling that it is alive and moving as important events occur throughout. The famous item creation and fun skill competitions such as 'Cooking Master' are also expected to be in the initial release. Players will eventually be able to cross the galaxy and land on other planets by building their own spaceships, or by buying tickets on a tourist ship to travel from one planet or station to another. Space combat is most likely going to be a part, though probably not on the first release.

 So while you play Fallen Angels or some of our team's mini-games, you can have SpherEternity to look forward to. And as always, if you have any sort of input, just comment. We take everything into consideration.

 More on Fallen Angels:

 The negative relationship system- While Star Ocean is famous for building character due to an internal relationship building system, Fallen Angels will be taking this a step further...or should we say, backwards. In most Star Ocean games, if two comrades who are close to each other in friendship level battle together and one dies, the other goes into 'rage' and gets a boost, wanting revenge for said partner. In Fallen Angels, private actions and other relationship triggers can actually hit below a 0 point, making people on the team only tolerate each other because they have to. So if two people on the team who severely dislike each other are in a battle and one dies, the other may cheer 'Encore!' or something funny. Relationship scores, both positive and negative, affect future PAs, battles, and even game endings.

 Multiple Game Endings - Fallen Angels will also have multiple game endings to be unlockable. You will recieve a few endings each playthrough plus one of the collective endings. Mini-endings are character specific endings where relationship and game choices come into play. There are also four 'collective' endings that feature all of your characters that will play out. The game will have to be played multiple times through in various ways to unlock everything. A secret ending will be available once all other endings are unlocked.

 Celestials - Some of the party members will receive Celestial Powers at a point in the game. Each celestial has the power effects of one in-battle and one out of battle skill. These skills will help immensely in your journey, and some must be used in order to advance the storyline. An example of an in-battle skill of one of the Celestials is that 'every party member is immune to faint...they can drop to 1 HP, but cannot faint for a period of time.' An out of battle celestial skill example is 'the ability to break down barriers to access paths you never could before'. So as you can tell, these skills are powerful and pretty drastic, plus their activation is flashy so you'll want to use them anyway, even for the eye candy.

Well, for the first post of my journal, I've decided to give an introduction to Star Ocean: Fallen Angels.

Star Ocean: Fallen Angels is EkIchi Game's pilot game and will be the first majour game released from the development team. The game is a prequel to all other Star Ocean games, including 'The Last Hope'. SOFA, as we like to call it, takes place in the period when Nede was the dominating power of the universe, which is before Earth became populated with humans. Having established an almost 'ideal form of government', the planets in the system bent towards Nedian will willingly. However, due to some small factions plotting an uprising against this, the Nedians, with their superiour intelligence and mastery of the Heraldic arts, devised the 'Ten Wise Men' project. Using heraldic-altered Nedian genes, they sought out Nedians to implant with this DNA, making them the perfect form of biologickal weaponry.

Dr. Lantis was the overseer of such a project, and began to scope out the most fit Nedian persons to fulfill such a destiny.

In the far future (after Til The End of Time, even), a hostile dispute has led the top-quality space-pilots to gather in a small section of deep space. Kayci Arpegllo, a human on the force fighting to control inter-planetary disputes, is renowned for her bravery and consistent string of well-fought victories. Her inclination to play 'the hero' has made her an idol to many. Whilst on this mission, she pulls a heroic effort to save an innocent tourist board and finds her fighter-ship damaged after making a near fatal mistake. By means of destiny she is pulled into a time-space warp and transported to planet Nede of the distant past.

The Ten Wise Men are foremostly average Nedians...before they are injected with the heraldry-enhanced cells, they lived out lives of near-peace and sometimes adventure on Nede. Kayci stumbles upon the intellectual scholar Indalecio (you will recognize him as the ultimate antagonist of Star Ocean: The Second Story) and gets sucked into an adventure of epic proportions. The ten are about to recognize each other's existence, but first they must come to terms with themselves...and enlist the aid of some very powerful Celestial beings, the Fallen Angels.

For those who know, the Japanese names of the Wise men each co-relate with an angel. These angels will be depicted in the game.

This game will chronicle the lives of the Ten Wise Men before they become the Ten Wise Men, DURINGtheir transformation, and up to the time period before they are confined to Eternity Space. Direct links to the second Star Ocean game will be provided and abundant, so the connection and flow will match the actual series.

Graphics:

The graphics to this game will heavily resemble that of Star Ocean: The Second Story/Evolution. Anime face-graphics will be present, but unlike Second Evolution, these will be animated with speech/blinking. CGI and anime cutscenes will be present.

The environments of the towns will have the 'billboard' effect like the SO2 game, with sprite characters on top. Overworlds and battlefields will be 3D with sprite characters.

Our musick has been stated (by players anticipating the release of our games) to be "better than 90% of the 'professional game musick' out there today", some going as far as to say our composer is the next aspiring Matoi Sakuraba (composer acclaimed for creating the soundtracks for the Star Ocean games).
